Okay, made it to 36+ for the week so far with my long run and a possible double (maybe the last double before race) to go. Feeling pretty strong (and tired) and hit a 7:40 pace for my second mile of my double today. I should top the 66 miles I hit last week with a good shot of getting 70 for my last volume week.
The big question I'm asking myself is shoes for Catoctin. I'm tempted to go with the Merrells which have gotten me through a trail half marathon, 2 50ks and a trail marathon. But CAT is a different beast and I only have one shot to get the shoes right. Second choice is New Balance 101's and oddly enough I elected to wear my La Sportiva Cross Lights last years as I though the 101's would be too minimal. What a difference a year worth of training makes huh? If possible I'll take a training run in the Merrels and let that be the deciding factor - if I can't make it out there I may opt for safety and wear the NB. Stay tuned!
