Quietly Surrerended

Quietly surrendered:

I can't say that I live a completely surrendered life, one fully devoted to listening only to the voice of love guiding me through the day. There are still insistent demands of the ego that I give into, sometimes following darker thoughts to unpleasant places in my mind.

but there's a way that leads me home.

always.

and more often than ever now I don't go down those paths at all.

my day begins with three questions:

³What would You have me do?
⁴Where would You have me go?
⁵What would You have me say, and to whom? (ACIM, W-71.9:3-5)

these questions echo through my mind over the course of the day, a background thought track that urges me to pause and simply listen to a softer voice that the one I've mistaken for my own. This is my Jhana yoga practice, a continuous self inquiry that points to my true nature. What I've discovered is that asking these questions brings me to a natural pause, a brief repast that stops the mental chatter. They bring me to a place of spaciousness, aware, genuinely curious for answers.

willingness.

three questions, and perhaps just asking them them is an act of trust.

so maybe it's a devoted life,

afterall.

quietly surrendered.

Safe Harbors

Safe harbors:

it's funny, even as my life clearly becomes more orientated towards A Course in Miracles, a livelihood earned by sharing it's message on my YouTube channel, lessons and text studied to the point where they often seem to spontaneously work through everyday life -

and at the very same time I feel so free from the Course as well.

it's the Presence that matters now.

the Course is my anchor, a safe harbor that keeps me from drifting to close to the stormy seas of ego's complete control. It still repeatedly leads me home. My daily life is filled with it's words. But it's the Voice that guides me now, more clearly than ever, and it often leads me to other safe harbors as well. Briefly though, healing points that feel much needed until I'm asked to let them go too.

above all else,

here's what I'm told to do....

Simply do this: Be still, and lay aside all thoughts of what you are and what God is; all concepts you have learned about the world; all images you hold about yourself. ²Empty your mind of everything it thinks is either true or false, or good or bad, of every thought it judges worthy, and all the ideas of which it is ashamed. ³Hold onto nothing. ⁴Do not bring with you one thought the past has taught, nor one belief you ever learned before from anything. ⁵Forget this world, forget this course, and come with wholly empty hands unto your God. (ACIM, W-189.7:1-5)

it seems the details of what I do don't really matter.

life is still happening.

yet I no longer fight to be the one in control.

at least not as often.

I'm guided to those safe harbors.

there's a voice that always leads me home.

A Favorite Reminder

I do not know what anything is for. (ACIM, W-25)

the above lesson from A Course in Miracles is as true to me today as it was when I first picked up the Course so many years ago. These days it's become a favorite reminder for me, a zen point in which I reset my ego's certainty and instead ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Yes, there's still a rush to seek judgement, an immediate sense that I do know exactly what a situation or person is for in any given moment. But it's not as lasting or as harsh as it once was, a softer response always makes itself known with a gentle reminder to pause and reconsider.

this is how so much of life has become a consistent meditation.

pause.

remembering to ask.

a reassignment of purpose and meaning.

forgiving.

and so my life day's go on.

Just a Yogi

Just a Yogi:

so it's just a little YouTube channel, low tech with a 10+ year old phone and internet connection. But it is part of my ministry, a place for company, presence, and whatever healing we can manage. The channel's name is Just a Yogi: The Yoga of True Forgiveness and both aspects of the title are important to me - that I am just a yogi based on my sincere commitment to simply practice through the day to day struggles that tend to offer me a lifetime of distraction if I'm not not mindful. I just show up - meditation cushion, yoga mat, and for every opportunity to forgive.

that's it...just a yogi.

as for the second part, the yoga of true forgiveness, it's based upon an after meditation vision I experienced - Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield together, and right after the 4 paths of yoga were explained. It was here, in my vision, that Krishna, with arm across Arjuna's shoulders led him off the battlefield and whispered a final message to him on another path of yoga. A fifth yoga, but one the world wasn't quite ready for at the time. The yoga of true forgiveness. My little vision was also based upon lesson 122 of A Course in Miracles:

What could you want forgiveness cannot give? ²Do you want peace? ³Forgiveness offers it. ⁴Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? ⁵Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? ⁶Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

2. All this forgiveness offers you, and more. ²It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day. ³It soothes your forehead while you sleep, and rests upon your eyelids so you see no dreams of fear and evil, malice and attack. ⁴And when you wake again, it offers you another day of happiness and peace. ⁵All this forgiveness offers you, and more.

3. Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. ²It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind. ³What would you want forgiveness cannot give? ⁴What gifts but these are worthy to be sought? ⁵What fancied value, trivial effect or transient promise, never to be kept, can hold more hope than what forgiveness brings?

(ACIM, W-122.1:1–3:5)

this is yoga, it's a directive path,

a practice.

and it truly offers everything I want.

so my channel is just a reflection of this, a collection of videos that describe my practice, a small gathering that comes to some live streams to laugh, relax, and, hopefully, feel a little better by the time they leave. I talk about yoga. I talk about forgiveness. And when I'm very fortunate a guest joins me for a healing conversation. Most of all - my channel is a place to practice. An ashram of everyday life where forgiveness greets me as an opportunity even here.

I'm just a yogi after all.

practicing.

Truly Helpful

Truly helpful:

thinking again of ministry and what it means to me - how it's to be applied on a much smaller, more intimate scale than previously imagined. This is a ministry of presence, of just showing up and practicing consistent courtesy, as mentioned in the original edition of A Course in Miracles. So you are my ministry, in whatever form you show yourself and however I may be called to serve.

²I am here only to be truly helpful.
³I am here to represent Him Who sent me.
⁴I do not have to worry about what to say or what to do, because He Who sent me will direct me.
⁵I am content to be wherever He wishes, knowing He goes there with me.
⁶I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal. (ACIM, T-2.V-A.18:2-6)

it's a ministry of surrender.

Ministry

Ministry:

after years of feeling it would be presumptuous of me to even consider the word, I've grown to love the of a ministry, embracing it not as a mere concept, but an actual lived experience of life. It's an energy really, a daily tasked performed for the loving benefits of others - quietly so.

my ministry is simply showing up everyday.

extending love.

forgiving.

and not a single word need be spoken.

Now has our ministry begun at last, to carry round the world the joyous news that truth has no illusions, and the peace of God, through us, belongs to everyone. (ACIM, W-151.17:3)

Nothing More I Need to Know

Nothing more I need to know:

it's okay, more so, divenly in order - it's interesting to finally begin coming to terms with myself, almost like permission to accept the flaws I've always believed were curses that held be back from being truly loved. I thought I was broken. A mistake. And my internal dialog gave me all kinds of examples. There was a time though when I was innocent of all this, unknowing of my brokeness, perfectly held in the loving mind of God.

and then I forgot.

or really, I was convinced otherwise by a world that glady told me of my flaws. I'm not sure why I believed the world over the love I felt from God. But I did, and for the longest time too. Even now, 61 years old and a lifetime of innerwork there's still more of a hint of old beliefs that haunt my mind. It's okay, those thoughts are almost always quickly forgiven.

here's the truth,

And God thinks otherwise. (ACIM, T-23.I.2:7)

there's nothing really to add to this,

every thought turned against myself, all the beliefs inherited by a world designed to break me from the whole, convince me that I'm small, alone, and not worthy of love...

God thinks otherwise. (ACIM, T-23.I.2:7)

and there it is,

there's nothing more I need to know.

Let The Children Heal

Let the children heal:

last week, on three occasions separated by days - the phrase "let the children heal" was presented to me from two different guest on my YouTube channel and once during a healing session. I have no idea what these synchincisitic words could mean, not yet at least, but they strike me with a sense of deep importance.

let the children heal.

what I feel is an innocence that's been scarred over, a hushed child that's been hushed to the point of quiet exhaustion and is now afraid to even softly cry out. This is one child appearing in sequence, mostly a dream figure now, too frightened to appear real. During my healing session, eyes closed and resting safely, those words "let the children heal" echoed faintly through my consciousness and seemed to find this lost and lonely child. Here is a symbol of wounded innocence appearing in many forms and various ages, from infant to adolescent, and yet all sharing the common wound.

I have no idea how to heal them.

but I'm ready, I think....to let them speak.

finally.

and maybe others will as well, a gathering of the wounded with soft intent to heal. It feels like that's what I'm supposed to do, providing a place where every voice is heard through the pain of their loneliness and despair. I'm not asked to be a healer...

just a presence.

the word "let' is the secret code.

and I can do that.

I can let the children heal.

finally.

Here I Am

Here I am:

I love how after decades with A Course in Miracles that a phrase will still find me completely new and offer another way of seeing things. Lately it's been a few phrases from the Urtext, the original edited version of the Course that seem to seek me out exactly when I need to read them.

Here I am, Lord.

those words were given to Bill Thetford as a grounding meditation, helping to gather a wandering mind and returning it back to center. They're not really a mantra, but more of an announcement of presence, a resetting to our original availability to God.

it's no accident that these words have found me now.

there's been many nights when the darkness has felt been more than the absence of an external light. I've wandered to some fearful places lately, alone in the wilderness of a struggling mind. And yet this short prayer reminds me that, indeed, here I am, still available to receive God's presence exactly in the midst of these wild and fearful places. They're not offered as a way out, an escape route not yet at least. For me they're a beacon symbol - I don't make my way to God.

He finds me here.

right where I am now.

always.

this is a prayer of my availability, not God's.

and once I remind myself of that....

I'm home.

Addressing the Cause, Finally

Addressing the cause, finally:

the official diagnosis is a jaw disorder, TMJ, with some underlying issues yet to be determined but more specialist will examine and give their input soon. The initial treatment is more meditation, most of which I don't think I'll use do to a host of undesired side effects - also botox, which in a few days could offer some profound relief. Ultimately there's structural damage to my jaw that's affecting my neck and throat which triggers severe anxiety and disrupted sleep. There could be other issues at play as well and, hopefully, further test will show and treatment offered.

however, this isn't really a health update.

I appreciate the Dr.s I've seen, not just their professionalism and skill, but their compassion as well. Much medicine has been prescribed and even more suggested. They want me to feel better, and, obviously, that's my goal too. What strikes is that every symptom has been addressed but we haven't quite touched upon the cause and how addressing that we eventually be the only real solution.

a complete life example in brief.

so I won't get into metaphysics here, no explanation of single cause and seeming infinite effects. Life draws its own metaphors in detail. I'm living with effects, rearranging them, hopeful for relief. The cause, at least for now, is largely unaddressed.

unhealed.

eventually, every avenue of relief pursued and found temporary - the actually cause will become the main concern. Finally. It's a process I guess, and at 61, I'm mostly tired of these long pursuits. TMJ, the structural damage, underlying throat and neck distress, anxiety - their all effects. My financial concerns, a sense of loneliness, and low grade depression. Effects.

I'm ready for God.

love.

connection.

truly so.

and through forgiveness...the only cause for every effect -

has finally been addressed.

Not Alone

Not Alone:

If you knew Who walks beside you on the way that you have chosen, fear would be impossible. (ACIM, T-18.III.3:2)

mostly, I haven't known, or at least it seems I've forgotten for a very long time. But I'm starting to remember, finally, the fainsest stir of recall has begun to ease my heart. I'm not alone. This was actually a realization many years ago, with the A Course in Miracles still being therorical in so many ways. Yes, many great changes happened through my practice, the mind training focus is very powerful indeed. But the intimacy of this figure who walked beside me was still missing from my life.

the last several years, age, loss, loneliness, these have all broken me open to an intimacy of presence that continuously astounds me. Most recently an extended stay of pain and anxiety have often brought me to my knees in despair, prayfel, desperate for comfort.

and that first glimmer of intimacy has grown.

expanded past a memory.

an answered prayer.

A Course in Miracles isn't really a self-study program. It never was. Because all along there's been a steady presence that whispered guidance to heart and ear. The Course has taught me how to listen, opening me to an of true intimacy that has grown into the softest voice of continuous love. I'm not alone - and I know Who walks beside me now, easing my fear, easing my fear.

I'm not alone.

none of us are.

Each Encounter

When you meet anyone, remember it is a holy encounter. (ACIM, T-8.III.4:1)

indeed, and such a sacred way to navigate through life. There's no no need to retreat to a mountaintop or retire to monastery - our awakening is here, right in the messiness of the world, and most often standing right in front of us. A Course in Miracles reminds in the Manual for Teachers that there are no chance encounters, no accidents in salvation, and that every situation is an opportunity to bear witness to the reality of the Christ within.

and the briefest moment will be enough.

my prayer for this morning:

may I recognize you today, my holiest of teachers, in whatever form that might be offered...and see through the thin display of our initial encounter. There is something deeper being given, an opportunity arranged for this very moment to be at hand.

may we recognize each other.

finally.

smiling at who we truly are,

Familiar

Familiar:

this was to be my year with God, trusting in a deeper way than ever before - and it seems life immediately put this commitment to the test. Please note that I didn't say God tested my faith. There's no requirement that my trust be displayed through hardships.

yet it can certainly feel that way.

for me it was financial hardship and health concerns, along with changing relationships. I took a creative and spiritual leap this year with my sole source of income being a small YouTube channel that's devoted to demonstrating A Course in Miracles in various and meaningful ways. It's different from many Course channels in that any teaching that takes place is more through presence than actually talking about it. I don't wish to lecture, but communicate and offer a display of kindness as often as able.

yes, it's a strange way to earn a livelihood.

difficult right now.

but I'm fully committed.

health and relationships have shifted as well. These once reliable pillars of strength have caused me a great deal of stress this year. It's as if I'm being asked to no longer depend upon the familiar and to now step upon new ground, sacred, yet still a mystery.

I don't always know if I'm up for this.

if I'm strong enough.

I don't know.

and yet my steps continue, most often joyfully so -

yes, a mystery.

frightening at times.

but I now sense a presence by my side, steady, and even more familiar than anything I've ever held dear before. There's love here. I mean right here, now, intimate and truly mine. I'm not really asked to trust, or at least not in the way I previously believed I was supposed to -

I'm only asked to continue walking.

one step at a time.

and be willing to recognize this presence even more.

that's it.

and so my year goes on.

They Always Do

They always do:

and so often it begins here, with just these first few words given to the page - there's been no real decision made on my own, but only a soft request to Holy Spirit for the right words to reach me this morning. They always do, never really a moment's doubt even through a lengthy pause. My writing feels like the first sacred act of the morning. It's immediately turned over to a higher source, leaving me feeling poised and trusting, ready to receive just the right words today.

there's no rush.

words will arrive, they always do, and so patiently I sip my one cup of coffee for the day - a sacred act too in its way, part of the ritual. This isn't really waiting. It's a pause, a deep act of listening, belonging to the flow of words as much as the actual act of writing. What I'm doing is trusting, more of a prayer, being willing to show up each morning before the altar of an empty page and asking it be filled with only the words received by the highest source of love.

it's the first real decision of the day.

one I no longer wish to make on my own.

and so I immediately hand it over,

asking Holy Spirit -

⁵What would You have me say, and to whom? (ACIM, W-71.9:5)

a sacred act.

the altar made ready.

and I write.

Quietly Forgiving

Quietly forgiving:

it's the joy of quietly forgiving, with little effort given anymore, but almost a continuous recognition of dreaming the world...and then gently letting go. There are long stretches of time where this is so, an actual length of my day when everything is forgiven.

also,

not always.

sometimes I'm still lost to a grip of fear that plays out all kinds of scenarios. Most often the dream seems very real, a solid world and life filled with problems. And that's okay too, it no longer tests my faith to have these moments - I'm not looking for an escape route.

I'm just quietly forgiving.

everything.

no matter what appears.

and there's so much joy in this too.

Where the Healing Takes Place

Where the healing takes place:

so it's clear to me now that the purpose for everything is for the practice of forgiveness. Nothing excluded. No exceptions. The world is a classroom for awakening. Forgiving everything that appears before me is how I wake up from dreaming this particular lesson.

I don't mean this metaphysically.

it's practical.

forgive - and let the story go.

the only real lesson here is that I'm happier without holding any grievances, that being free of resentments means I'm ultimately at peace, and with the absence of judgement I allow others to learn their lessons at their own way. There's no rush. Not ever for me.

and so forgiveness slows my pace to just this present moment.

that's where the healing takes place.

nowhere else,

but now.

Blessed Indeed

Blessed indeed:

for most of my life I've enjoyed exceptional health, having been able to take my body over extreme lengths of displays of fitness, and with every biomarker indicating that all was sound. Today those markers still check true, my health is measurably fine right now.

and yet I feel like I'm falling apart.

of course there's small issues appearing on a hard worn body. A Trickly left knee, a back that takes careful warm up each morning to feel pain free and ready to face the day. I'm fortunate to have such small issues when so many at this age begin to suffer so much more.

I'm blessed indeed.

also,

there's an undercurrent of anxiety right now, too sleepless nights alarmingly strung together. There's an issue at hand that my Dr's haven't been able to diagnose nor properly treat. The issue might be my jaw, misaligned from a missing back tooth, and creating pressure and spasms through my neck. At night, laying down, it triggers acute anxiety, as if airways are alarmingly restricted and I ride waves of panic and spasms into a very shallow sleep. If I'm lucky. Many nights are completely sleepless. Some potent anxiety meds proved helpful but short term and some lighter muscle relaxants don't seem to be working very well at all. There's a few doctors appointments scheduled, a dentist and neurologist and I hope for some helpful information and course of treatment.

but's that's not what this is about.

not really,

this is about forgiveness.

truly so.

how the one dependable thing has been a steady practice of forgiving a growing lists of ails, letting go of a once reliable identity, and settling into a deeper healing now. It seems that forgiveness is the very point of aging, with new opportunities arising daily and in ways I never once imagined.

what a wonderful opportunity.

I'm blessed indeed,

There's Always My Return

There's always my return:

a release, and then the soft return of breath - whenever it arrives. Such an simple meditation, no deep concentration needed, just the breath and it's natural mantra of the sound "so" on the inbreath and "hum" as it's let go. Yet what happens is profound, a settling in at first, relaxed, and then moments left between breaths, suspended for an untold time in a spacious awareness.

it's a beautiful beingness.

of course it doesn't last, the mind eventual strays from breath and the rhythm of the mantra.

but there's always my return.

away from my meditation cushion, another rhythm is established - forgiveness has it's own natural mantra, soft words of letting go of even the slightest grievance or resentment. This too is meditation and it's effects are even more profound than those moments on the cushion. The rhythm of of breath and mantra is an easy allowing of intake and release. There's no interference on my end, no interruption of passing thoughts to force even the quietest of intention.

it's natural.

and so is forgiveness.

my mantra, always slightly changing, is simply a request for Holy Spirit to show me the divine light beneath it all. That's it. Nothing more is needed. And when I forget, as I often still do....

there's always my return.

To Be Truly Helpful

To be truly helpful:

that I am here to be truly helpful, yes, and I know this for certain now. This is karma yoga, selfless service to the divine through my smallest interactions. It's also the beginning of one of the most beloved prayers in A Course in Miracles:

²I am here only to be truly helpful.
³I am here to represent Him Who sent me.
⁴I do not have to worry about what to say or what to do, because He Who sent me will direct me.
⁵I am content to be wherever He wishes, knowing He goes there with me.
⁶I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal. (ACIM, T-2.V-A.18:2-6)

it's the second line that grabs my attention, especially the word "represent" and the relief it brings. I no longer have to try and place myself front and center, a conflicted healer or teacher at a loss for just the right words to say.

³I am here to represent Him Who sent me. (ACIM, T-2.V-A.18:3)

and what follows this is an immediate surrender - everything needed to be truly helpful to others is then provided. This is where the prayer shifts to pure devotion, a willingness to let go of my personal agenda and allow myself to be guided to wherever God wishes me to be.

⁴I do not have to worry about what to say or what to do, because He Who sent me will direct me.
⁵I am content to be wherever He wishes, knowing He goes there with me. (ACIM, T-2.V-A.18:4-5)

the very last line is confirmation of my connection to the world. No one heals alone and you're healing is essential to mine. This a prayer of oneness really, a chain event to self-realization, and those finishing words are our salvation - mind and yours.

ours.

⁶I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal. (ACIM, T-2.V-A.18:6)

and so we're healed together.

amen.

I'm Starting To

I'm starting to:

this year has had a high focus on establishing trust, allowing a higher guidance to lead me through life in a more complete way than ever before. It's not really something that can be measured, and definitely not judged in its success. Trusting is something that unfolds naturally over a time, revealed as well as developed through continuous choices made.

and sometimes it arrives by grace.

a Holy Instant.

my own example is the complete and instant faith I gave to my sobriety almost thirty years ago. It was unearned and definitely felt undeserving at the time. Back then I didn't quite have the langue to frame it, A Course in Miracles was still fairly new to me and my practice rather laxed. Yet without a doubt sobriety came to me as the highest act of trust, being asked for just a little willingness to see my life another way - nothing forced, still an option to say no....

and I was willing.

my tolerance for pain finally reaching its capacity.

over a decade of self destruction ended.

just like that.

of course what followed was commitment, practice, my entire life given to this higher guidance. And there was so much forgetting along the way, mistrust, and just plain stubbornness. That moment of complete trust and the gift of sobriety was a high watermark that hasn't often been reached since.I know this grace is always present though, displayed in infinitely smaller ways.

I'm trusting.

I just don't always see it...but I'm starting to now.

finally.

My Return Point

My return point:

I love meditation, it's been a steady practice for decades, leading me from  troubled mind of addiction to a truly inspired life. I've been blessed by my practice. What's been most helpful, meaningful, is the return that it offers me. Even after so many years of practice my mind will still roam from breath and mantra, a thought hooks me and I'm wandering far from my original focus. Yet I always have a place to come back to, a patient mantra or steadiness of breath that welcomes my return.

and so my meditation continues.

forgiveness has been the same steady return point.

if I wander off into the wilds of grievance, or the pettiness of resentments - forgiveness remains as an anchor, an option of peace that never waivers. This is my off the cushion meditation, a daily affairs practice that extends mindfulness to all aspects of my life. It doesn't matter if or how far I might wander, forgiveness remains fixed in center, a steady assurance.

my return point.

no matter where I roam.
