My Happiness

My happiness:

my happiness and function are one, lesson 66 of A Course in Miracles, and now several times through the workbook over the past few decades I find myself giving full attention to certain lessons that didn't quite standout to me before. It's not the that they weren't important or didn't have an impact, but, for whatever reason, they weren't the ones that lingered long after the lesson was done.

and yet,

my happiness and function are one.

this seems most important to me now, vital, as I find myself struggling through a recent low point, depressed, and most definitely questioning my function in the world. The Course doesn't ask me to deny this, there's no bypassing here. I'm simply led to investigate the nature of my struggle, to examine where my emphasis has been - ego or spirit, fear or love, illusions or reality.

my true sense of happiness is independent of struggle, it's based on purpose and not achievement. That's where this lesson leads me, again, and maybe I just forgot it those first few times around. But I remember now, happiness is based completely on my function and that has been given from God. My function is salvation, yours and mine, as there's really no difference.

so how do I achieve this?

I don't.

I just live my life in full awareness that my only real purpose is to love, and that what appears to be a struggle is just life, happening in all of its complexities. My function is to love myself through it, all of it, no matter what appears. And should our paths converge along the way...

my function is to love you as well.

whatever's offered.

as if my happiness truly depends upon it.

I love you.

and that really does make me happy.

I love you, Eric

Joyfully

Joyfully:

there is a deep joy here, independent of circumstance, vital, and becoming more clear and evident to me everyday. Yes, of course there's sadness present too, grief, and a whole host of symptoms brought through living in extremely confusing world. But none of this touches the joy of my essential nature, providing me a soft return for every foray into sadness.

God's will for me is perfect happiness.

clearly so.

and I rediscover this everyday.

joyfully.

To Be Happy

To be happy:

it's for my own selfish reasons really, and honestly, forgiveness just makes me happy, at ease within my mind. There's nothing I can't eventually let go of, and I am immensely grateful for the joy this brings. So my practice isn't mostly for the sake of others, or least not at first, but stems originally from a wish to simply feel better, to release myself from the self-inflicted pain of judgement and resentments.

I forgive to be happy.

and through this...

I then find a more peaceful world.

it doesn't matter where we start from, as even a selfish point eventually leads to its own surrender. But some paths will have us wander farther from our main objective, taking us deeply through a wilderness of sorrow and false beliefs. So let's start with the sincerity of simply wishing to feel better, happier, and a little more at ease.

sooner or lately...

we realize that forgiveness leads us home.

and it's exactly where we are.

right now.

Peace,Eric

Happiness

Happiness:

there's an emphasis on happiness throughout A Course in Miracles, not a false one that is dependent upon any outer circumstance, but a happiness of depth and actual freedom from conditions of the world. I love that the course and it's what continuously draws me back to the Course, reminding me to practice forgiveness as my own healing and salvation.

the trick is to not get hung up on the terms used, salvation being an example, doing I really need to be saved? And who exactly is the one in need of saving? There was a time when I would struggle with the language and miss the simplicity of the lessons.

I am healed through the practice of forgiveness.

 that's my salvation.

and therein lies my happiness.

it's simply.

really.

Peace, Eric
