The Weight of Certainty

The Weight of Certainty: 

I do not know what anything is for. (ACIM, W-25)

in many ways my life revolves around this single lesson, an entire practice within its conclusion. The ego certainly believes that it has a firm understanding on what everything is for and why anything is happening. It has assigned a purpose to every person and event as they appear and seldom waivers from its first conviction unless it sees a profit in the change. 

Everything is for your own best interests. ⁶That is what it is for; that is its purpose; that is what it means. (ACIM, W-25.1:5-6)

 and those words are when everything changes. With just a little willingness to open to this possibility I'm brought to a humbleness that surrounds me with divine mystery as well as a loving guide that walk me through those dark clouds of certainty towards a light of true understanding.

It is crucial to your learning to be willing to give up the goals you have established for everything. (ACIM, W-25.5:1)

so once more I'm humbled. 

the Holy Spirit shines a light on even my slightest conviction that I know what something is for and very gently asks me to reconsider. When I do so I feel immediately lighter. Certainty is a heavy load to carry and even a brief pause to to set down it's weight brings a great relief. Most importantly the Holy Spirit and A Course in miracles ask if I truly want to continue carrying that load. 

lesson 25 reminds me that I don't have to.

I can walk in mystery.

of only God.

Teachers

Teachers: 

the last two years have been a masterclass in forgiveness for me -health issues and anxiety returning, relationships shifting in their status, financial strain, and the usual list of life's demands. Forgiveness saw me through with no small amount of grace. Yet most significantly this past year brought a host of truly wonderful teachers to my small YouTube channel, as if each one was literally selected by the Holy Spirit for the exact moment of my need.

lesson 25 was gifted to me by such a teacher, initiated really, bringing back to he very foundation of A Course in Miracles. It's become a life mantra, an utterance not of despair, but for a brand new mindset to view whatever's at hand. 

and perfectly aligned, knowing that there are no real coincidences, today's lesson is reviewed in perfect fashion: 

Love is the way I walk in gratitude. (ACIM, W-215.1:1)

so to my teachers, each one with just the right message and again in perfect timing...

thank you, thank you, thank.

A Fresh Look

A fresh look: 

last year one of the long time teachers of A Course in Miracles offered me a fresh look at lesson 25 - feeling more like an initiation really, as if a hidden sacredness was revealed that I had missed through the previous decades of my own practice.

 I received a mantra.

I do not know what anything is for. (ACIM, W-25)

perhaps in Zen this would be a continuous return to the beginner's mind, allowing the world to be renewed in its original innocence each moment. So I come back to this lesson more than any other, lessening my ego's grip on certainty and reminding myself to rely only on the Holy Spirit's interpretation of my life events and situations - especially while they're actually occurring. 

with this....I'm shown what everything is truly for.

and the world is then forgiven.

or at least a little quicker than before.

My Commitment

My commitment: 

lesson 28 of A Course in Miracles has a very Zen like quality to it in that we're asked to withdraw our preconceived notions from a particular object, our stories, making a commitment to, at the very least, admitting that we have no real idea of what it is, nor what it's truly for. Our directive is in saying that above all else we wish to see this object differently, knowing that to see any one item with clarity is to then awaken to the divine light that shines within everything. 

including each other,

and yes, 

ourselves. 

so my commitment then....is to really see you.

and how you light the entire world.
