A Show of Love

A Show of love:

so largely, I've kept political commentary to a minimum for the last few years. I'm not sure it needs my voice. But here's what I've become keenly aware of - what's needed right now, from politics to social media and all the way down to our nearest neighbors, is a powerful show of love displayed kindly to the world. What we have right now is the ego writ large, forcibly on display, and it seems to be causing damage to the very fabric of our soul. It can't go on. And it won't. The hard question is, can we curb it before those darken clouds burst in a storm of escalating violence?

ego is a powerful force.

love is greater.

debate won't solve our present issues, yet small acts of kindness done repeatedly will certainly bring the ego down to its manageable size. And the reason is that it's hard to be kind in the face of meanness, it's difficult to be a light that shins through darkness. It seems much easier to be silent, to dim our light and try to wait the dark out. It isn't, and that's because we are the voice of love and light is our extension. This time, right now, is when we are meant to shine brightest. Peacefully so, kindly, no shouting, simply extending love through the guided action of our best and highest angles. Let's be intuitive, gentle and persistent, lovingly present to the concern of others. Yes, protest if it feels called for, wave a sign and carry flowers, do what feels right in every present moment. But just know, always remember, that only love is ever true and real...that's our only answer.

and we need  it right now.

Only Love

Only love:

of course politics are on my mind, it would be difficult to completely escape its insidious reach even as I attempt a retreat from such things. The truth is - there really is no retreat from an illusory world and its lingering effects. There's only vision, and this involves simply seeing reality beneath turmoil, continuously invoking the presence of love in any political situation or discussion. What I have is the tool of forgiveness and my wish for healing.

truly, it's impossible for love to ever retreat.

so I face the world once more.

extending only love.

A Cookie Half

A cookie half:

more than ever now my politics are one of kindness. I'm not sure I can really offer an explanation, or that one is truly needed. Kindness is all that matters and we are suffering from its deficit. Yes, I'm naive, but I will take the architect Buckminster Fuller's words to heart and dare to be naive as that's how we change the existing order of the world. Our self-interest at the expense of others, of the planet itself, is unsustainable and will only lead to ruin.

only through kindness is how we'll save ourselves.

and this is across the political aisle.

kindness is a continuous practice, moment to following moment, and doesn't really take much consideration. It's simply the re-education of the heart, remembering to pause for a silent beat and allow our spirit speak from it's long hidden depth. We remember kindness, it's the shared toy, the broken off cookie half we offered to a childhood friend. It's what we were and still are - kind. Yet we have bought into the political madness that a selfish gain is somehow now a better option.

of course it isn't.

no one flourishes at another's expense.

ever.

so my politics, such as they are, is without motivation other than our true concerns. How may we serve for the benefit of all. No one is excluded. I will dare to be naive and hold out hope that kindness truly matters and will resurface as our only goal. Really, this is an invitation, it's not a political movement, but simply a request for each of us to remember who we are -

and with this in mind,

here -

a broken off cookie half...offered to a friend/

It Starts With Me

It starts with me:

I've largely ignored the news lately, catching just enough in background noise to further my purposeful retreat. The world's a mess, and not likely to get better. Some will celebrate certain developments, for others they will be cause for despair.

and everything continues pretty much the same as ever.

for me, I've taken lesson 153 from A Course in Miracles to heart - that the world gives rise to defensiveness, it's rooted in attack and anger, there's no safety here, and that peaceful of mind is all but impossible. Hardly a great message for a spiritual text.

but it does hold promise.

in my defenselessness...my safety lies.

with this one lesson I am asked to lay down my weapons of defense.

and so I do.

it's difficult, of course, as I have my own strong opinions and concerns. I have long wished for a more fair and equitable world, homeless offered shelter, every starving child fed, and the environment cared for. Those dreams seem so far off now, more so than any other time before. And I'm tired of asking for the world to change. It's not going to happen. In fact, it's not supposed to - but we are.

and it starts with me.

it always starts with me.

that's my one true holy purpose.

your's as well.

so even as a glimpse of news still affects me, disturbing my peace of mind - there's an opportunity here as well. I simply offer love, my defensiveness laid aside, no political side taken. I offer only love. No, it's not always easy, but it is a joyful practice, forgiving my way back to center, returning again and again to that place where only love is found. It's with this that the world transforms.

starting with me.

and it always starts with me.

Casting Shadows

Casting shadows:

I'll admit that this election has thrown me for a bit of spiritual loop, that with such a heavy focus on cruelty and an emphasis on a personality over virtue - I hoped that Americas core values would shine through and we would make a better choice this time around. Still, I wasn't overly optimistic, although I wanted to be, but there was a heaviness in the air that kept too much hope at bay. Our collective shadow is not quiet ready for the light.

but we're getting there.

maybe.

and that brings us to this present moment.

right now I am a deep participant in this shadow process, my own fears projected outwards and joined with yours. Collectively, we're now in process of our spiritual and social evolution. Individually we get to shape this course of action.

what will we choose?

for me, I'm back on track, only shaken slightly and not for very long - I am committed more firmly than ever to choose peace instead of chaos, love over fear, and to forgive my way towards a better world. I will place emphasis on healing my own shadow and more so, to see directly through yours and know that it is an illusion of subconscious darkness projected outward to the world, not to bring fear, but to be healed through the light of love. There's a great service to this election, our moment of healing is at hand if we're only ready to embrace this opportunity.

what will we choose?

love?

forgiveness?

or to remain within the darkness...

casting shadows to the world.

I choose peace.

right now.

Only Lesson

Only lesson:

I'm not so sure that we're as politically divided as we're led to believe. Yet, it's a contentious elections and sides have been drawn across the social and political aisle. But it seems that if actually talk to each other, a real conversation, we come to find that our differences aren't a barrier at all, they're more of an opportunity to lay aside  our perceived grievances and come to know each other better.

it's an opportunity to discover who we truly are as well.

of course not everyone will take this as an opportunity to learn about themselves, some will cling to an ego's point of view through any cost, including making entire groups of people, not just wrong, but actually evil. It's with this that they actually condemn themselves. Once that line is crossed they're mind is divided in a chasm that's almost impossible to mend.

yet still, we try.

 and here's the plan....

love each other.

forgive.

it's really that simple.

but not always easy.

So we have to think of this as a practice, being mindful of our own thoughts and actions, asking ourselves what we're demonstrating to others through our needs. We're teachers, all of us, and students too, at once learning and offering lessons to each other through our every moment together.

what is it we wish to learn?

what are we teaching?

it's that simple.

teach only love.

for that's the only lesson.

Election

Election:

this is a high stakes election for many, viewed as one that could change the course of the nation, and emotions are heated on both sides of the political aisle. I obviously have my own preference and most people guess correctly through conversations and my writing. But I don't talk about it as much as I used once did, there's little need as I don't need confirmation and I know that there's little, if any, chance in changing anyone's mind.

nor do I really wish to.

I simply live my life by values held dear.

kindness.

empathy.

compassion.

forgiveness.

trusting that others will arrive here on their own.

so with this I surrender the results of this election. I will vote, but refuse to take a side that pits me against another. I am not a political party and neither are you. We're family, deeper still, we're heart connected, belonging together as loving thoughts in the single mind of God. There's no way I could ever take a side against you, an impossible task and one I will no longer even entertain.

whatever the outcome...

I will love you.

happily so.

Love Our Way

Love our way;

continuing on a political theme here, that really, this is a season of division that has spread wider and deeper than ever before. We're literally and constantly being told who we're supposed to hate and given vague reasons why we must despise them - terms, slogans, and chants - all offered to stir the blood and give rise to our darkest and most violent emotions.

but no one can truly convince us to hate another.

those thought reside in us alone.

and it's our responsibility to heal them.

we'll never hate our way to freedom.

with almost half of any country convinced that there's an enemy within they'll eventually burn themselves completely to the ground and proclaim victory to the ashes. There's really only one alternative to this, a simple solution, although admittedly not initially easy - love those whom we perceive as different, for whatever reason, without a single exception.

especially those we most strongly disagree with.

vote against them.

campaign.

even protest if there's a valid reason.

but don't hate.

because it never works.

we can only love our way to healing.

let's try.

Choose Love

Choose love:

the question that I sometimes given on social media is to make a choice between Israel or Palestine, sometimes followed by why I don't discuss such issues now that I have a small platform on YouTube to share my views. And they're correct, I generally don't give my views and especially on complex geopolitical  problems that are so far beyond my understanding.

as well, the phrasing of the question leaves me without an answer.

there are no sides in suffering.

and that's our thinking right now, on so many issues, that there's an actual choice to be made against another,  believing that actual sides exist, and that compassion for all is too far fetched to even consider. I don't have an answer, at least not one that would really satisfy anyone. Yet I do know what to choose and it's a always my own personal choice of peace, not through any grand gesture, but just a quiet retreat to my deepest self and then to extend myself as love throughout the world.

one person at a time.

so for me, that's all I can do, but maybe you're much smarter and more capable than I am, and if so, than I hope you're able to play a role in bringing peace to such a troubled world. What I do know is that no change will be lasing until we each achieve a sense of true inner peace. I know that love, a true love without conditions offered, will be the only possible solution.

and it starts with you.

me too.

I'm doing my part right now, quietly so, gently, forgiving my way through the world. We teach peace individually, and it seems to take a very long time to reach others. But that's not our concern, we have an entire lifetime to spread this message. First though, and always after, it begins right now, you, me, and the love that's shared between us. Until this happens - no other peace will be achieved.

so let's begin right now.

let's choose love.
