Generosity

Generosity: 

without any expectations, and yet still there's a deep knowing that what is given to others returns to us, at least in essence, if not exactly in the same form. This is true generosity, one of the ten characteristics of God's teachers as outlined in A Course in Miracles. It's not a practice, but an out-flowing of an overwhelming response to the miracle of love. 

when we are centered in this love - there's no choice but to give every bit of it away, without thought really, as the true gift is instantly returned to me through the joyfulness of our heart. This is a true life of service, a continuous effect of the only real cause....

as we offer only love.

No Surrender

No surrender: it feels like we're asked to surrender, to relinquish control of our life and ask the Holy Spirit to now take over - yet really, we're not asked to do any such thing. We were never in charge of our lives, there was no real power at our command. Virtually all of the decisions we've ever made have been demands by the ego, a false belief system that truly has no control and blindly follows its every impulse and desire. The ego is simply a collection of thoughts that linger in a sense of self-importance. It doesn't really exist, at least not in any substantial way, and only serves its most immediate need of having a sense of power and control each life event we encounter. but the ego doesn't truly exist beyond it's own self-belief system. so there's really nothing to surrender. we're only asked to see. and then to shift our thoughts towards a higher system, one that contains only the urge for peace and extends itself through loving actions. It's not surrender, but a remembering of the only true option that's available to us, one that serves our highest needs. there's no surrender here... just love. and it's this that we remember. ~ I love you, Eric

Release from time:

such a beautiful line from A Course in Miracles, that forgiveness is "the great release from time" and taken quite literally its practice always brings us right back to the present moment and the past is then left so far behind us. This is a zen style teaching really, a radical type of forgiveness that only brings focus to the moment at hand and heals us from our carried trauma. 

forgiveness releases us from the past.

and brightens our future.

yet mostly though...

it brings us peace right now.

Tenderness

Tenderness: 

it's been so often a choice, consciously choosing a loving thought over the first impulse of the ego. But now this holy instant seems to come unbidden, a spontaneous burst of absolute love that almost overwhelms me in the tenderness that it offers. Without any doubt I know myself as love and wonder at all the times that I've believed otherwise. 

there's no choice now.

only love. 

and I tenderness that it offers.

That's all: 

so my confession is that I don't really practice A Course in Miracles, yes, I've studied the text for decades and have gone through the workbook lessons several times and will probably do so again one day. But the truth is that I have little interest in any philosophy, and although the Course doesn't really contain a dogma to strictly adhere too, it often becomes easy to cling to any teaching as an absolute truth and close our minds to what we're actually supposed to be doing. 

my only real practice is forgiveness.

the Course offers a clear and precise explanation on why and how to practice. It's Zen like in its simplicity, and similar too in how it is consistently demands our return to the moment at hand. Forgiveness is an instant meditation, a return to reality, and most importantly, opens us to the absolute truth that's offered to us right now through the presence of unconditional love. 

so I simply practice forgiveness.

the Course is my reminder. 

that's all.

All That's Left

All that's left: 

my every concern relinquished, turned over to the guiding voice of Holy Spirit, and all that's left then is the faith of my surrender. The entirety of A Course in Miracles is a gentle nudge towards that one moment when I finally admit that I don't know what is truly best for me - and everything changes after that, as if a confession that lifted the darkest secret of the ego and held it up to the light of God. 

I've been seen through completely.

and all that's left is love.

Light of the World

Light of the World: 

the world I see is a projection of the mind, an illusion, my own deepest thoughts shown outward, as well as the collective beliefs we all share together. That's the premise of A Course in Miracles and the first lessons of the workbook are designed to help us see that this is so. I often consider those early lessons as a path of negation, first taking away our conceptual awareness of the world, and only then offering a visionary return to the light of heaven. Here, heaven is a mind-state, not an actual destination, but the reality of a place we right now reside once we awaken. 

and forgiveness is our way of awakening.

cutting through illusions.

so my only function here is to forgive my own projections, recognizing the shadows I've cast upon the world and sincerely, gently...

see you as you truly are. 

forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.
