Only Love Remains

Only love remains:

it's radical responsibility, accepting that fact that I see exactly the world that I have invented through the beliefs that I have cherished and valued. Looking around the world this is hard for me to accept, both the beauty that appear beyond my ability to even imagine, as well as the tragedies and violence that seem to abound. The metaphysics of A Course in Miracles insists that I am the creator of the world I see, assigning all meaning, and mostly, this isn't even original in my own thinking, having inherited a belief system that keeps me trapped in their appearance. Having explored this concept for many years, studied the lessons of the Course and then applied it - I do, indeed, believe that this is so.

sticking with the Course even further,

I'm now beginning to invest in a world I truly want to see.

forgiving every belief I formerly cherished.

 seeing reality just beneath them....

and only love remains.

Laws

Laws:

truly, I am under no laws but God's, and yet I live my life in a very ordinary fashion, recognizing that this world has a certain order that I must follow. It's the interior light that guides me however, unwavering in it's quality, always illuminating my path ahead. I am in an illusory world, real in a very physical sense and honored for the lessons that it offers. But reality offers only God's law, singular in it's devotion to love, light, and forgiveness.

I am under no laws but God's.

 and happily so.

Nothing Unreal exists

Nothing unreal exists:

the beginning gives it all away, right from the start of A Course in Miracles we're told that nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists, and in this theses two lines we find the peace of God. Already we're set up for debate, just glancing around shows us exactly what exists, and the realness of our thoughts and body speak of their reality. Yet all of these can be threatened in someway, so ultimately, they're untrue.

and, indeed, therein lies the peace of God.

it's here where we make a helpful distinction - only what God has made is real, and it's eternal, having the lasting value of God's love. It can never be threatened. Of course this doesn't mean that we don't care for our material possession, or not taking joy in our bodies. But all of these are threatened by time itself, having a shelf life of a certain number of years. They are unreal in this sense, and so to believe that they will bring us any lasting peace will always, eventually, lead us to suffering.

that which is real, God, is beyond suffering.

only love is real.

and therein lies our peace.

Only What is Real

Only what is real;

an unforgiving thought is one that's not questioned The mind is closed around such judgments so as to make them absolutely real and without room for any healing to occur. When this happens our every grievance becomes real, and resentments solidify as our view of the world. Yet still they remain just thoughts projected outward, continuously remembered, almost cherished really.

and never once questioned so it seems.

A Course in Miracle reminds us that what we thought happened didn't occur, not in the actuality of the Holy Spirit, which only views things through the present moment and only through the eyes of love. So all we're asked to do, as far as forgiveness is concerned, is to bring to mind the reality of this moment, a holy instant that's always free of past and never holds resentments.

that's it,

really, we do nothing,

the entirety of forgiveness is simply resting in this moment.

and accepting only what is real.

Lesson 33

Lesson 33

it often feels as if a single lesson contains the entirety of the Course, that if properly understood, deeply so, just one lesson would be enough. This probably true, as really, this isn't new information at all, but rather a revelation of what we's always known about ourselves. Lesson 33 from the workbook of A Course in Miracles tells us that there's another way of looking at the world. Imagine, everything witnessed right now could be reevaluated and seen through the lens of love.

reality.

we could see ourselves another way.

but of course we don't know that's even possible, it seems beyond us, or perhaps requiring such great effort that we're too intimidated to even try. It only takes a shift though, more of a letting go than anything else., surrendering to a greater field of vision than our own limited view. Lesson 33 asks for just a little bit of faith, a willingness to believe such of shift is possible.

and that something better might exists.

we're only asked to try.

Only Love

Only love:

I appreciate the stark choice laid clear by A Course in Miracles, that we have love and fear, both voices found within us, with one representing the reality of the Holy Spirit, while the other gives us a continuation of ego's illusions.

love or fear - our only two options.

and only one is real.

the truth is, we so immersed within ego that it doesn't seem we have a choice at all. reality is flipped around to give us a living world of chaos while love becomes an occasional act of folly. We are so deep within illusion that not even the brightest lights of Jesus or a Buddha shines its way through to us. We're lost, completely so.

until we're not.

the voice of God, synonymous with love, is ever present.

a whisper, yes, for love makes no demands.

yet patiently so,

a continuous whisper,

choose only love, for only love is real.

and eventually...

I do.

Hierarchy of Illusions

Hierarchy of illusions:

some deep understanding now dawns, decades after initially picking up A Course in Miracles and 17 years out from completing the workbook book for the first time. Not an easy journey, but always fulfilling in the insights that it brought me. What I find these days is that the Course shines even brighter, that things once glossed over capture my attention and draw me even closer to the happier dream that's offered. See, the Course doesn't really talk of enlightenment, it's only concern is in awakening from the illusions perceived into the light of truth, reality - and that until happens we can begin to see the world in a much different way, a kinder, more gentle landscape of illusions.

I am not a happy dreamer, not yet at least.

but I'm drawing ever closer.

an important insight, vital actually, is that there is no hierarchy of illusions. It's difficult to understand that meaningless is, indeed, meaningless, and that all we see fits within this category. This is what makes true forgiveness possible. An illusion is always false and only our beliefs give weight to its existence. We make our every grievance and resentment real.

and so they carry on.

but without a hierarchy there's no difference between our slightest hurt and most grievous wound - everything is forgiven equally, and so the illusion of a fearful world begins to unravel. True forgiveness can never be done by the ego as the entirety of its existence is based upon a hierarchy of illusions. We believe that somethings must remain unforgiven and other wounds may be forgiven over time. The Course says that this is a misuse of time and that it only projects a continuation of a very unhappy dream. To forgive is to undo it all, right now, and enter into a brand new world.

or at least a happier dream.

and so for me, at this point in my dream, I begin to forgive more frequently now, more easily, and to catch that glimmer of light that extends as my awakening. It's right there, an eye flit away from dawn, and truthfully, I'm in no hurry.

as it is with every dream,

awakening happens on its own.

and until then...

I'll just continue to forgive.

Almost Home

Almost home:

it seems as if I'm on the edge of something so much larger now - the real world beckons and my heart is almost home.

this isn't to imply a split mind here, it's really non-duality in it's purest sense for me, that everything I've ever searched for is present, and always has been, yet its all been overlooked by a thought created world. This is a life of perception, a dream projected outward from a base belief of guilt and fear and then heavily judged through these harsh conditions.

but I'm almost home now.

or really,

right on the edge of awakening...and finding that I'm already there.

Our Truest Favor

Our truest favor:

it's funny as I think about all the things that have never worked for me throughout life,  the thoughts and habits that haven't made me happy in anyway, or worse, have contributed to a great deal of discomfort, and too often, no small amount of sorrow. Yet, it seems, I have clung to such ideas with passion, defending them to myself and others even as I knew the truth of what they offered.

and I really have no idea why.

my guess is that I believed that they were somehow part me, an identity that, for better or worse, defined me in what I considered an important way. And of course they did - but only because I allowed them to do so, giving these thoughts the power to prove my own world view. However unhappy they might seem to make me. I believed every story that I told about myself, embraced every lie that I thought, and gave myself permission to suffer these illusions.

and not a single one of them were true.

ever.

not really.

these days I find myself smiling more, deeply and sincere. I'm kinder to myself, and I'm honest with my own self-assessment now. None of these thoughts, opinions, or beliefs, not of myself nor any other, are even close to being true.

not a single one.

they're just stories that we tell.

so often that we believe they're real.

but they're not.

we can see right through our illusions...viewing the world a different way.

by questioning our stories just a little.

and being willing to let go -

of all that doesn't serve our truest favor.

A Holy Idea

a holy idea...breathed into

existence -

and thus I am.

~

this again leads us to the tenet that ideas leave not their source, that it's impossible for us to be separate from God, and that, more so, the world itself is not apart from us. Everything exists within a divine mind and anything that doesn't appear to us as holy is simply a self created illusion, a projection of our own belief of somehow being separate from the source.

so we don't seek to change the world,

but only our projections.

and only then do we see the true idea of reality.

 being seamless.

existing wholly as the mind of God.

  having never left the source.

Ideas

Ideas:

a central theme throughout A Course in Miracles is that ideas leave not their source, that a thought itself is never separate from the mind and only the effects seem apart from it. With this in mind we see that the world is an effect of our perceptions, created through continuous thought and maintained by a belief systems that's largely unexamined.

our world is made of mind stuff.

however, based on fear, guilt of our apparent separation, we have only created an illusory world that's filled with much sorrow and struggle. A misuse of our true power. But a change is possible, it's simple, and only takes a bit of our attention.

let's just make another world.

simple.

we've created an illusory world based upon misperception, meaning that our perceptions have missed the mark of reality. So here we are. Yet it only takes a mind-shift for reality to show through, that beyond this world is another already made from the mind of love.

ideas leave not their Source.

we are an idea in the mind of God.

existing already as love.

and that's the world of our true creation.

we only need look deeper.

and see...that beyond illusion -

only love is real.

Grandeur

Grandeur:

we're simply asked to note the difference, being always the same, yet cloaked through various expression of life and so easily overlooked. A Course in Miracles calls this the grandeur of God versus the grandiosity of ego, how the first causes illusions to drop away and the other brings us deeper into our own self importance.

grandeur is reality.

it's the absence of an individual sense of self.

and we're left in awe with every notice.

grandiosity is a puff of self worship, it covers a deep despair of loneliness and fear, masking our false belief of separation with forceful bravado. We could just call it ego. It's always small and calls us to display our littleness with a purpose that's harmful to the world, keeping us trapped in illusion that has no room for the actuality of love.

yet grandiosity will part for the light of truth.

and reality always shines through.

grandeur is our nature.

it's who we are.

we're simply asked to note the difference between illusion and reality...

choosing only what is real.

Transitory Shade of Green

Transitory shade of Green:

as I was out with my camera yesterday, looking for a daylight spotting of an owl that I knew was nesting nearby, and I suddenly found myself awash in the greenness of the the world right now, being nearly overcome by the intensity of color and fragrance of the season. I love this time of year, above all other times I adore the richness of this shade of green that's soon to reach its peak. What immediately struck me was that this season of green is even now changing, that at this exact moment autumn is already present in these leaves -

so I find myself as witness to the transitory shade of green.

and recall the lesson on suffering offered from  the Buddha,

urging me not to cling to any season.

as everything is in motion.

always.

and my world is never settled.

at this moment, in the depth and thickness of greenness, it's an illusion - what I'm truly seeing is the wavelengths of red and blue, absorbed by the chlorophyll within leaves and then reflected to me as my favorite shade of green, a gift really, received by eyes and soul. In the fall, chlorophyll breaks down and exposes this illusion, showing the brilliance of autumn colors already present in the leaves. Change, motion, is the only reality of every season.

it's the lesson from the Buddha.

and so as witness to this transitory shade of green, I embrace the moment, loving it's illusory nature through the very richness of its color,

and knowing that even now reality is offering me its reflection.

 refusing to cling,

my love only deepens.
