Magic

Magic:

it's a different perspective on magic, there here, as offered by A Course in Miracles, magic is seen only as a misperception of our available tools, illusions working with illusions, and never truly taking us to the cause of our deepest wound. Magic perpetuates an outer world of turmoil, forcing us to look upon the ego surface as the source of any healing.

yet what we truly need is a miracle.

a miracle is a shift from the manipulation of form towards the formless source of healing. It's a recognition that only the mind is real, and that this is where every decision to heal must be made. To choose a miracle is recognize that Love is our reality, our true home, and that this must be where we return to in ordered to be healed. Magic,in certain forms, can certainly be useful to navigate the world - yet deeper still, beyond the dreaming of this world, our home awaits...

and it's forgiveness, seeing through our every illusion here,

that finally takes us home.

White-throated Sparrow

White-throated sparrow:

the white-throated sparrow has made itself known to me - of course it's a familiar bird, probably always present and simply overlooked. I'm sure I've seen them dozens of times on my every walk. But for some reason, now, they seem to have a message for me, something personal they wish to share. So I'm open to their presence, attentive, and find myself smiling, truly joyful every time they appear to me in their unique and magical ways.

and I think perhaps that's their message, that it's time for me to find joy in the familiar, the local, and not to search outside my true home for anything that promises a better means of awakening then what is present right now. These little birds are so colorful, clever, and have been able to insert themselves through my own dense fog of perceptions. I over-looked them because I had eyes not for the magical, but only for the promise of something extraordinary to arrive and awaken me.

yet the beautiful white-throated sparrow, in gentle call -

reminding me to be present,

to see this magic,

familiar,

being found nowhere else

but here,

now.

and so I listen, alert, watchful...

awakening to joy.

Peace, Eric

A Squirrel's Tale

A squirrel's tail:

squirrels have recently become cherished spiritual teachers to me, since I began filming short nature clips for my YouTube channel they have reached out with all important lessons that I've most certainly needed to learn right now. What I'm learning is to not overlook the familiar, everyday sights that may have seemed to lose their enchantment, becoming ordinary through the routine of their appearance.

squirrels show me that nature is far from ordinary.

and not to overlook a single thing.

the issue was never really squirrels of course, they've always been amazing. It's been my take on the world that has led to my loss of enchantment. I've been looking for a less obvious magic, something grand that leaps directly to the camera - and all the while entirely missing the subtle artistry of a tails language, a playfulness that's found through racing circles with a friend, and the astonished joy of a finding a leaf buried acorn.

briefly, I'm seeing the world through a squirrel's eyes.

completely re-enchanted.

what I've learned is is patience and to ease my demands placed upon nature. If I simply wait, camera calmly trained upon a squirrel, they'll freely teach me their magic. My role is only to suspend my judgement against the familiar, allowing the most obvious and ordinary things of the world to reveal their essence, their beauty, through their own subtle language.

...like a squirrel's tail.
