I Get It

I get it:

over a year ago I felt compelled to deepen my commitment to living the teachings of A Course in Miracles, that it was time for a full surrender to the practice of forgiveness. There seems to be something in the air right now, a subtle sense that danger looms and that we are helpless to prevent its quickening approach. As well, my personal life collapsed in many ways this year and I was left emotionally groundless, fearful of whatever loss might come next.

years ago I  once came across a story about William Thetford, co-scribe of the Course, and how once retired from his prominent position at Columbia University he settled into what he called his his "real job"of full time forgiveness, a declaration that baffled many of his friends and former co-workers. I love that story, but didn't quite get it at the time, thinking it was no more than a clever line to describe practicing the Course.

I get it now.

and although I certainly don't feel up to the job at hand, most especially as a full time job, I also don't believe that there is any other option. A great quote from spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle sums this up, not nicely, but with a great sense of urgency - "evolve or die" And so here we are, collectively, with a precipice before us and we must decide.

do we evolve?

or perish?

of course that's way too much for me to handle, the weight of spiritual evolution is too far above my pay grade. So I'll stick with the only other option that's available right now - my own full-time job of quietly practicing forgiveness.

I think I finally get it.

I love you, Eric
